Following last year’s successful celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Greywell will be looking to once again come together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Planning is underway by the Village Hall Committee with ideas being developed.

Coronation Mug Competition

The action will of course all take place on the Coronation Weekend in May but prior to that we are organising a competition for Villagers to design a Greywell commemorative mug with the winning entry being made available to all households attending the picnic on Sunday 7 May. If you would like to take part, here are the details:

  • The design must incorporate the following words – King Charles III Coronation, Greywell and 6 May 2023
  • Entries can be submitted either by email, using a file or photo attachment, to susan_forrest31@hotmail.com or hard copy, no larger than A4, to 1 Dorchester Way
  • Deadline is Friday 7 April

So please channel your inner Emma Bridgewater and get those designs submitted!

Weekend Events

The main event will be “The Big Lunch” on Sunday 7th May which will be held in James and Sally’s garden at Greywell Hill House. There will be a Jazz band playing as we eat a picnic lunch. There will be games, another Bake Off competition (so we can have cakes to eat!) and we will reveal the winner of the Coronation Mug competition. Each household attending the picnic will be eligible to receive a mug.

We have arranged for Berry Brothers and Rudd to run a Gin Tasting on Friday 5th May and we plan to have another Tennis Tournament.

You may have noticed that a Lime Tree was planted in Church Meadow about 50 metres along the footpath from the one we planted for the Queen. This 2nd tree will have a plaque placed in front to celebrate the coronation.

More to follow in due course
